Celebrating 10 years of Luminair on iOS! Yes, 10 years. It’s hard to believe, but Luminair 1.0 for iPhone was released on the App Store back in July 2008!
Thanks to a forward-thinking group of users (you!), we’ve been able to grow from a small little utility all the way to a full-featured platform which thousands of creative pros rely on every day.
We originally had wanted to make this a big post looking back at the history of Luminair, but we believe in looking forward to the future rather than concentrating on the past. Needless to say, looking back at the amazing projects you’ve used Luminair on has been beyond inspirational.
So what’s next? (more…)

Luminair v3.3 has been released today and includes some great new feature additions that promise to make the designing experience better than ever. To celebrate this new release, Luminair In-App Purchase extras are also now on sale for 50% off through March 31, 2016!
First and foremost among the new features in v3.3 is Fixture Linking, which allows you to more easily link and control multiple identical fixtures together. Not only can you control identical fixtures in unison, but you can also choose which specific parameters to link. All of these options are saved on a scene by scene basis, so you can effectively manage both individual and linked fixture options without any compromises to the functionality you’ve grown accustomed to. Today we’ve released Luminair v3.2 for iOS, which adds support for an additional lighting control protocol… KiNET. This means that Luminair now supports simultaneous control over four separate protocols:
Art-Net, sACN E1.31, KiNET, and Hue!
KiNET is a lighting control protocol owned by Philips and is used in their Color Kinetics line of products/power supplies. CK power supplies and LED nodes have a wide range of uses and purposes, and are frequently utilized in architectural type applications. Many famous landmarks around the world, like the Empire State Building and more, rely on Color Kinetics products (and KiNET) to drive their beaufitful lighting displays.
KiNET support in Luminair means you can now control Philips Color Kinetic power supplies natively from the app using either KiNET v1 or v2 packets. Again, this is simultaneous with the other protocols that Luminair already supports (Art-Net, sACN E1.31, and Hue) so you’re free to mix and match. Luminair is an equal opportunity controller. Let’s cut right to the chase… After 7 years of wireless lighting control over Wi-Fi connections, we’re excited to announce that Luminair 3 now supports transmitting network DMX protocols (Art-Net and sACN E1.31) through wired ethernet connections.
The newly released Luminair 3.1.1 update adds support for Redpark’s L2-NET Lightning to Ethernet cable. This Apple/MFi-certified cable converts the iOS lightning port into a standard ethernet cable, and will appeal to anyone who prefers a reliable and direct wired connection instead of Wi-Fi.
The new update also adds support for Apple’s iPad Pro Accessories (more…)
November is here, and so is Luminair 3.1 for iPad Pro!
We’ve been hard at work optimizing Luminair to take advantage of the larger screen real estate, by adding features like iOS 9 multitasking and improving general app scaling. This means that you now have more faders and buttons at your immediate disposal on iPad Pro, for a more comfortable experience.
You also now have ability to run the app side by side with other iOS apps on all supported iPad models, so you can do things like reference design notes and so much more without ever leaving Luminair.
Luminair 3 has recently been honored with an Editor’s Pick selection in Worship Leader magazine’s Best of 2015 issue!
On the topic of why they love it, the editor’s had this to say:
“…2015 has proven that tablet software can be reliable, powerful, and more versatile than their predecessors, and Luminair 3 is no exception.”
